  • All About Native & Wild Bees | Sunday, April 5
When we hear people talk about how to "save the bees", most of the discussion focuses on honeybees. But what about our native and wild bees?

There are over 19,000 known bee species worldwide, with over 970 different native bee species in Canada!  Many scientists report native and wild bees to be vital in ensuring the balance and full-function of our ecosystems, and of far more importance from an ecological standpoint, than honeybees. Additionally, some native and wild bees are more efficient pollinators, when compared to honeybees. Shouldn't the discussion about bees include native and wild bees? What can we as citizens do to help our precious native and wild bees survive & thrive?

Join us with the people behind Bird & Bee Honey to learn about:
     - Which native and wild bees are most commonly found on the Canadian Prairies
     - How to identify various native and wild bees
     - Lifecycles and nesting habits of various native and wild bees
     - What plants and nesting sites native and wild bees prefer
     - How to attract native and wild bees to your yard or balcony garden
     - What you can do at home to help save native and wild bees
     - Honeys available for tasting
