Pavilion Art Galleries

The Pavilion is open daily from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.

One of Winnipeg's most recognizable and beloved landmarks, The Pavilion has served as the heart of Assiniboine Park for over 100 years.

The original building was constructed in 1908, one year before the Park officially opened, and replaced with the current structure in 1930 following a fire.

Today, the beautifully restored Pavilion is home to the largest collections of works by renowned Manitoba artists Ivan Eyre, Walter J. Phillips, and Clarence Tillenius. Through WAG@ThePark, a partnership with the Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG), Park visitors enjoy free entry to expertly curated exhibitions, drawn largely from the Conservancy's collection, as well as from the WAG's vast holdings.

Invented Landscapes: The History of this Land is Imprinted on our Imagination

Ivan Eyre’s landscapes are inseparable from the events that shaped this nation. They carry evidence of what is often historicized in Canada as idyllic, pastoral, and earnest forms of human intervention but they also represent settler ideologies of land that fuel Canadian nationalism and belonging. This exhibition is an opportunity to question the biases, assumptions, and tastes that affect how we perceive art by critically engaging with the history of Canada in relation to Ivan Eyre’s landscapes.

Landscapes to Seed the West

In this exhibition, you will see artworks by Walter J. Phillips that represent the cultural climate of Canada in the early 20th century and contemporary reflections by artists like Jeffrey M. Thomas and Diana Thorneycroft addressing the lasting impact of the national narratives of his lifetime. This exhibition considers how land, nation, and propaganda are related to early 20th-century landscape through a critical study of Walter J. Philips’s art within the context of nation-making.

105th Winnipeg Sketch Club Juried Exhibition

March 3 - May 26, 2024

Opening Reception: Sunday, March 10, 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

The Winnipeg Sketch Club was first organized in 1914 to provide students with the opportunity to sketch from live models. Today, the tradition continues with their 105th Annual Juried Exhibition. Watercolour, pencil, pen, oil, acrylic – the medium may vary, but the goal is to communicate through art. By assembling weekly to practice the fundamentals of observing and drawing from life, members are able to creatively explore life here in Manitoba. Serene waterscapes, unforgettable landscapes, and portraits of fellow Winnipeggers have been sources of inspiration. Well-observed seasonal changes in light and colour help bring these people and places to life for visitors to the Community Gallery.
